DEMIX QUARRY MODERNIZATION

Located in the heart of an urban center, the Laval Demix Quarry was facing a good news problem. Ever-growing demand for its traditional aggregates, as well as new services such as snow storage and recycling of consumer waste and construction materials, was exceeding the geographic and logistic capacities of the site.  In order to handle the increasing demand, the quarry decided to build a new conveying system to streamline material handling, saving cost, time, and space.

The extremely aggressive environment and the abrasive nature of the materials required a high-performance corrosion solution to ensure long service life of this huge investment, without the normally associated high-performance price.

The wonderful properties of hot-dip galvanizing were a natural fit extremely long service life, abrasion resistance that is better than the steel itself, inside-out protection of tubular sections, and an initial cost lower than alternatives.  For this reason, no sales pitch was necessary, the quarry owners insisted on galvanizing! For the galvanizer, successful installation on-site was achieved through careful identification of all components and precise cleaning of excess zinc at all connection points. High capacity plants with very large baths streamlined turnaround and permitted larger assemblies.

Now in operation, this handling system is increasing capacity and lowering costs while saving space. The wise choice of hot-dip galvanized steel ensures the new system will provide maintenance-free service to Demix for generations to come.
