Industry needs to take voluntary initiatives that aim to encourage and assist the construction industry to build momentum through guidance and leadership. At Corbec, educating and supporting the design community is a core value. So, rather than relying on the use of industry standards that are not really plant specific, Corbec took the leadership as the first coating supplier in North America to create its own plant specific EPD’s.

It is key to reiterate some of the key considerations for the proper preparation and the importance of adherence to guidelines, which are essential for the successful welding of pre or post galvanized steel. These include the proper welding practices for before or after galvanizing, and how they play a significant role in eliminating distortion and ways welded surfaces can be re-galvanized.

This years CWB Group Canweld conference is well-attended and well organized.

It was an excellent opportunity to have discussions with Architects about the advantages of galvanizing.

This presentation will discuss how the structural impacts are positively affected by using galvanized steel and must be an important part of the Carbon in construction and an overview will be provided of the design applications and solutions that can reduce the global warming potential. Whether it is for transport systems, bridges, reinforcing rebars, infrastructure, housing, etc., galvanizing is an essential solution to meet and exceed design and lifespan expectations and contribute to sustainable design choices.‍

Corbec at the various Committee meetings at the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction (CISC) Spring conference-Hellen Christodoulou is a member of the National Steel Building Committee, the new chair of the steel bridge committee and the Vice-chair of the Sustainability Committee.

The REM Light Rail- Phase (I) project recently won 2 major distinctions. The project received the highest honor, as the 2024 AGA (American Galvanizers Association) Award for the “Most Distinguished Project”. In addition, it was the winning project in the “Engineering” Category and the recipient of an Award of Excellence in Steel Construction conferred by the CISC (The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction).

Congratulations to the University of Laval team, the top winner of the 2024 Canadian National Steel Bridge competition (CNSBC)! Also, congratulations to all the teams for winning other prizes and for your participation!

Corbec's annual reunion of corporate staff was an opportunity to share the corporate strategies, direction, goals, and objectives, to be inspired by one another; a nice occasion to meet and spend some valuable time together.

It was an opportunity to have very informative discussions and exchange with members about the advantages, the durability, and the versatility of using galvanized rebars. Galvanization provides the ultimate sustainable and low carbon foot print solution at a fraction of the cost!

A wonderful event was organized to celebrate their history, achievements, and future successes. On behalf of Corbec, a plaque was presented to commemorate their 75th anniversary. We are proud to count ourselves among your partners.

The relevance and quality of the sessions were very impressive. The program was designed to give participants plenty of opportunity for exchange, reflection, and networking.

The Corbec team extended a warm “Thank You” to all the steel Fabricators, participants from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Consultants from various Engineering Firms for attending the 1st technical tour of Corbec’s state-of-the-art Galvanizing Facility in Hamilton. It was a successful tour and a networking cocktail that followed.

The Corbec team attended the very productive OSSFA, AGM. It was an opportunity for informative exchange with Fabricator members and the pursuit of collaborative initiatives. Corbec, as supplier member, was pleased to support and be one of the sponsors of this event, as they have done with other events that support and strengthen the industry.

The committee is a centre of expertise within TAC and a national forum for information exchange and problem solving related to transportation structures including bridges, overpasses, tunnels, buried structural culverts, overhead sign structures, and retaining walls.
