Canada’s Leading Galvanizer Pioneers Sustainable Design and Construction Trends

Corbec Inc., a leader in Canada’s galvanizing and construction industry, made an important announcement at the recent Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Conference in Vancouver. Hellen Christodoulou, Executive VP of Engineering and Sustainability, announced during a plenary session that Corbec will be publishing third-party verified EPDs with CSA Group.

They are the first galvanizers in Canada to publish EPDs for galvanized structural steel and the first in North America to publish EPDs for galvanized steel rebar. This is both timely and critical for the construction industry. She emphasized that "Corbec has set a new standard for the Canadian construction industry. It is now proven that choosing galvanizing for corrosion protection offers designers and specifiers the lowest carbon footprint solution with the highest ROI, helping them achieve their project performance goals".

This groundbreaking news for the bridge industry highlights that the EPD results prove galvanized rebar has the lowest global potential over their life cycle, substantially lower than glass fibre reinforced and stainless-steel rebar. The technical details will soon be communicated.
