Reasons for Galvanizing: Coating Durability, Corrosion Performance
Components Galvanized: Walk-way and supporting structure.

This first phase of the expansion of the Mont-WrightMining Complex in which Arcelor Mittal intends to raise its annual productionof iron concentrate from 14 to 24 million is a project that falls into the“Plan du Nord” (Northern Plan).
The Northern Plan of the Quebec government was madepublic this year and its stated goal is to further develop its economicpotential through a sustainable development partnership that respects the FirstNations, the Inuit and local communities. Northern Québec is fascinatingbecause of its immense territory and the scale of its potential.

The mining potential of Northern Quebecis a major element of this plan. It affords an opportunity to capitalize on thedevelopment of emerging nations by facilitating the responsible development ofthe territory’s resources. Through its energy potential, Northern Québec, wheresome of the world’s biggest hydroelectric developments are located, also offersan opportunity to participate even more actively in the fight against climatechange by developing clean, renewable energies.
Mining operations are a major componentof the economy of Northern Québec and Québec as a whole. Northern Québecproduces all of Québec’s nickel, cobalt, platinum group metals, zinc, iron oreand ilmenite, and accounts for a significant portion of gold production.Lithium, vanadium and rare-earth metals usedincreasingly in numerous fields related to energy, transportation and hightechnology, are also found there. In addition, the territory has high potentialfor uranium and diamonds especially in the Otish Mountains region.
Northern Québec’s mineral resourcepotential is far from being fully established. The Labrador Trough, recognizedfor its abundant mineral resources, extends north of Schefferville. There arealready at least 11 new projects that could be launched in the comingyears in the territory that the Plan Nord covers. The development of theseprojects would ultimately engender $8.24 billion in investments and create11 000 jobs during the construction phase, then nearly 4 000 jobs ayear once they are in operation.
