PRINCE RUPERT FOOT BRIDGE

The Fairview Container Terminal in Prince Rupert British Columbia has just completed Phase Two of its development.  Taking advantage of the ever-growing trans-pacific trade this expansion raises the annual capacity of the Fairview Terminal to 1.3M containers per annum.

Along with the obvious corrosion challenges of any seaport Prince Rupert has an exceptionally wet climate both in terms of humidity and precipitation thanks to nearly constant onshore winds.

Hot-Dip has long proven itself with long service life, low maintenance and rugged abrasion resistance in precisely these kinds of environments.

This contract involved the creation of pedways and reefer towers.  The reefer towers allow for the inspection of refrigerated containers as they are leaving or arriving at the port to ensure proper temperature control before being released to their new mode of transport.  This is an essential step for ensuring safe transport of perishable foodstuffs.  The pedways allow safe transit for terminal employees down from parking areas to the bus terminal itself.

Hot-Dip has long proven itself with long service life, low maintenance and rugged abrasion resistance in precisely these kinds of environments.  Careful quality control and precise bundling and labeling at the galvanizing plant many thousands of miles to the East insured trouble free timely erection at the bustling construction site.

While a small part of the overall project it represents an example how galvanizing can be a natural partner in salt water terminals everywhere. Ever-rising paint system costs contrasted by real dollar reductions in galvanizing costs are opening opportunities in markets such as this previously unreceptive to our industry.
